Marciano was born in 1960 in Newark, New Jersey. Exposed frequently to violent crime growing up, he notes falling in with “the wrong crowd” as a teenager. It wasn’t until experiencing a car accident at 17 years old after a party he decided he needed to change.
While his initial efforts focused on economics and biomedical engineering in school, he later shifted to acting. Enrolling in Berkeley’s Drama Studio in London, he eventually landed a part on “Wiseguy.”

How Dave Marciano Became a Part of ‘Wicked Tuna’ and the Show’s Success
Captain Dave Marciano became an integral part of “Wicked Tuna” after being approached with the show’s premise.
Marciano explains, “they said, ‘Hey, we got an idea for a show. ‘We’ve been on several boats. We’ve been talking to other captains, and one thing we noticed is your name came up a lot on all of these other boats.’”
Inviting Marciano was seemingly a no-brainer, with the actor graciously accepting. The show intended to follow a group of fishermen who seek out bluefin tuna and he was among the best and most charismatic.
Though initially accepting the job for the extra money, Marciano expresses shock over how popular the show has become.
In an interview with Hollywood Soapbox, he claims “when this all started, I did it for a little bit of money at times. I never in a million years thought it would get to the level where … [there’s] now season five airing, and I’m talking to you on the phone. I just got done filming season three of a spinoff show.”
Funnily enough, the actor still isn’t used to seeing himself on television.
“I never planned on none of it, but it has been an amazing ride for me and my family,” he said. “It’s been very good for all of us.”
“Wicked Tuna” is still going strong, with Marciano recently teasing the next season on Twitter and promising “big things” coming.
