According to BBC, Prince William spoke to BBC Newscast about the recent explosion in space tourism and private aeronautics. “We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet. Not trying to find the next pace to go and live,” the royal explained.
Prince William also stated he thinks that ultimately is what sold it for him. “That really is quite crucial to be focusing on this [planet]. Rather than giving up and heading out into space to try and think of solutions for the future.”
William Shatner spoke to Entertainment Tonight about Prince William’s comments by stating that royal is a “lovely” Englishman.
“He’s a lovely, gentle, educated man, but he’s got the wrong idea,” Shatner explained.
The Star Trek legend also said the idea to go into space is not to brag about going into space.
“The landing that consumed all that energy And people to take a look and go, ‘Oh, look at that.’ No, I would tell the prince, and I hope the prince gets the message, this is a baby set into the idea of getting industry up there.”
William Shatner further explained that at the end of the day, Prince William is missing the point of space travel. “The point is these are the baby steps to show people [that] it’s very practical. You can send somebody like me into space.”
William Shatner Shares More Details About His Space Journey
Also during his interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wiliam Shatner said his space journey as “indescribable” and there are just no words in the English language to relate to his experience. “You hear people say religious experience. I don’t know about religious experience, but you can have an overwhelming experience.”
William Shatner does eventually describe the experience as being like caring for a child.
“Looking at what I thought was life and death. The need to stop that blackness from overwhelming our precious planet and how unknowing the people who are not as consumed as I am about the necessity of protecting the earth.”
William Shatner does admit that he can’t stand being reminded that he’s now the oldest person who has traveled to space. “It reminded me of the death facing me because of my age. But also how to protect you in the years to come.”
In regards to his future plans, William Shatner explained that he’s too busy and all he really wants to do is be with his dogs, horses, and family.
“That’s really what I wanna do. But I feel compelled to do these other interesting things.”
