Wolf Van Halen Flips Critic’s Argument By Comparing His Situation to An Actor’s Child

by Matthew Memrick

Mammoth WVH founder Wolfgang Van Halen shot back at a critic who was looking to troll him over his late father’s music.

Fans of Van Halen have harassed the singer/guitarist down in dreams of the 1980s band reforming. Wolfgang Van Halen replaced his late father, Eddie Van Halen, in the last configuration of the Van Halen band.

But you have to be your own man, right?

Thursday was another day for some to call out Wolfgang Van Halen. When a fan quips that Wolf should play his dad’s famous guitar solo song, “Eruption,” the singer returns the volley perfectly.

“I think we should start demanding children of actors to put on plays of their parents’ movies. That’s normal…….right?”

Good point. Kind of.

Yes, there are a lot of failed attempts or small homages the kids play over the years. Actress Melissa Rivers plays Joan Rivers. Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays his dad in a TV series show. Shoot, the iconic actress Sophia Loren played her mom and herself in “Sophia Loren: Her Own Story.”

However, Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson, played him in the 2015 biography movie “Straight Outta Compton.” It made $201.6 million at the box office.

And many “Sopranos” fans are salivating over son Michael Gandolfini playing the role of his late father, James Gandolfini, this year. “The Many Saints of Newark” is set for Oct. 1.

But the point still stands. Keep up the fight, Wolf.

Wolfgang Van Halen Has Perfect ‘Eruption’ Reply

Eddie Van Halen‘s “Eruption” wowed audiences live for years, and is considered one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.

GuitarWorld Magazine fan poll ranked the 1978 song as best in 2012 and 2013. Fans said it was better than Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.”

The magazine said the song’s tapping, gonzo whammy bar dips, and harmonics blew everyone away. Eddie Van Halen put on a clinic every time he played the intense tune. It raised the bar for guitarists ever since.

The fan joked that Wolfgang Van Halen should just go on and play it. He kind of did here.

Play ‘Panama?’

Another fan tried to ask Wolfgang Van Halen in an excellent way to “honor” his dad by playing another hit recently.

The fan said in a friendly way, it seems, to play the 1984 hit “Panama.”

What did Wolfgang Van Halen think about that?

“I honor my dad by existing and doing what I do every day,” he responded. “I’m not f*&kin’ playing panama for you guys.”

Well, that in-your-face response kind of drove home the point, right?

Maybe not. But Wolfgang, you keep playing your stuff, and possibly one day, the time will be right. But fans, you must give the man some space.

Wolfgang Van Halen’s band, Mammoth WVH, is currently touring separately and with 1980s band Guns N’ Roses. On Friday, Mammoth WVH plays in Las Vegas.
