There’s a whole lot of face time with ol’ snake-in-the-grass Jamie Dutton within Yellowstone‘s Season 4 trailer. Which is to be expected, as John Dutton’s adopted son has been integral to the show’s dramatic proceedings so far. He’s a character fans either love to hate or hate to love – or simply just hate outright. But through all his terrible decisions, back-stabbings, possible redemptions, and even good deeds… Is Jamie Dutton truly capable of putting out hits on the only family he’s ever known? The sister, brother, and father he truly loves?
Yellowstone certainly doesn’t want us to think so. At least not anymore. Not if the Season 4 trailer has anything to say about it.
“Oh my God” are the first words Jamie utters in the proceedings. It’s also the first time we see his face, and it is not the face of a man who knows what the hell is going on. Instead, Wes Bentley plays the scene rattled to his core. This may, in fact, be the exact moment where Jamie hears what has happened to his family. To the Duttons.
And then Garrett Randall re-enters the fray.
Are you ready for this? The countdown continues. The highly-anticipated season 4 of Yellowstone will premiere on November 7, 2021, with a special two-hour event, exclusively on Paramount Network.Paramount Network
“Fair… Moral… Those are words men invented to scare and shame other men from taking back what they’ve stolen,” we hear Randall narrate as the trailer continues. He’s speaking on his biological son, Jamie’s, claim to the Dutton “empire,” an empire he is desperately trying to get his adult son to “retake.”
“What about right or wrong?” Jamie asks Randall in return, his hands shaking ’round his pistol grip.
“There is no such thing,” his biological father replies with a wide-eyed smirk.
‘Yellowstone’ Season 3 Assassination Attempts: If Not Jamie, Then Who?
Through all of this, we’re led to believe that Jamie is, in fact, completely innocent. Which he should be. While things had seemingly gotten to a place of no return by Season 3’s finale, they still weren’t to the point to justifying Jamie turning into a rampaging murderer. Or the type of man who orders such a thing on his family. He may get there eventually if Randall is able to warp and twist his mind further. But he’s not there yet, and Yellowstone wants us to know that with their Season 4 trailer.
So if it’s not Jamie, then who is it? Is Randall behind it all? Honestly, that’s just as unlikely. Financing a huge hit like this has to cost untold amounts of money – money that Randall definitely doesn’t have. Or so we think.
Instead, the likely culprit may still be Willa Hayes and the Market Equities brass. In Season 3, Episode 9, Hayes tells Roarke Morris that they’re going to have to handle their situation with Beth and the Duttons “like Yemen.”
Sound like an ominous, “kingpin with hitmen” way to phrase something? Sure does. And Market Equities certainly has the cash to back up such a move, too.
We’ll find out come Yellowstone‘s two-hour premiere event on Paramount Network November 7.
