12-year-old Brecken Merrill plays Tate Dutton, the cute little cowboy in training on Yellowstone. But what does he look like in real life?
Brecken’s acting career began in 2018 when he landed the role of Tate Dutton on Yellowstone. Since then, Brecken has been cutting his hair and donning a little cowboy hat for the role every season. When he’s not on set, he grows his hair long so that he can later donate it to wigs for kids. He’s only 12 years old and he’s already finding ways to give back! Here’s a sneak peek into what life is like for Brecken when he’s not filming Yellowstone.
What Does Brecken Merrill Do When He’s Not On The Yellowstone Set?
Brecken recently expanded his acting resume to include the movie, We All Got to Dance. Brecken plays the lead character, 13-year-old Emmett LeClair. The movie takes place in Washington during the Vietnam War and is shown through the perspective of Brecken’s character.
As a young acting star on a mega-hit show like Yellowstone, you might think that Brecken is already living a lavish Hollywood lifestyle. But that’s not the case at all. Yes, he gets to hang out with superstars like Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly. And he gets to attend red carpet premieres. But besides the occasional Hollywood moment, Brecken Merrill lives a pretty normal life. He’s the middle child with two other sisters. And, according to his Instagram, the family spends a lot of time doing normal family stuff. Brecken’s mom (who manages his Instagram account) shared a series of photos from a family hike.
Along with the photos she wrote, “Family adventure to Jerry Johnson hot springs.”
Just like the Duttons, the Merrill family seems to be very outdoor-oriented. Brecken’s mom also shared a video of the family on a rafting adventure. Along with the video, she wrote, “Had a blast rafting Alberton Gorge. We played rodeo – I lasted longer than 8 seconds!”
Brecken even shares an important trait with his character from Yellowstone: they both love donuts. Brecken Merrill’s mom shared another post featuring Brecken and his sister downing some delicious donuts. Along with the photo, she wrote, “Thank you @godscountryprovisions for the delicious donut decorating kits! Just like Tate, the way to my heart is thru my stomach. Can’t wait to visit in-person once we’re back to normal!”
