Ice Fishing Tips

A lot goes into ice fishing. It’s not as easy as one might think, and that does not just include bearing the elements. No, there is a lot more to it than that.

Dave Genz knows all about the endeavor and how much it has changed over the years. He told The Weirs Times, “Hang on, you’re going to start catching more fish. It’s just so much more fun to go catching. I remember my dad taking me ice fishing when I was young and it was a cold thing. We sat around and waited for the fish to bite. When I take young people out, they’re figuring out how to go out there and catch these fish, not waiting for them.”

There is a difference between waiting and chasing after them. That has changed for Dave.

He continued, “If you want to get your children involved with ice fishing, get out some electronics and let them see that it’s a video game with live players on the other end. You can go out in the middle of the day and catch fish. You don’t have to wait for the sun to go down or get up early in the morning (before the sun comes up) just to catch fish.”

It’s like a game. You are competing with the fish. That’s an easy way to get kids interested and involved in the process of finding fish and simply going ice fishing. It is all about how you frame it and there is no right time to go snag some fish, which is also quite important.
