Classic Chevrolet K5 Blazers Get New Life in 2021

Earlier this month, Jonesboro, Arkansas-based Flat Out Autos revealed it has been converting 2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe trucks into K5 Blazer lookalikes.

According to Fox News, the converted Chevrolet Tahoes have custom bodywork that’s styled after the original K5 Blazers. The company revealed that on their K5 Tour, car lovers will notice the custom-designed billet door handles. The handles notably utilize the QEM mechanism. “Next you will see the classic houndstooth seat inserts. And the engine bay that seamlessly blends the old and new styling around back. You will see the carbon fiber “tailgate” hatch with integrated backup camera.”

The converted Chevrolet vehicles have a custom-built set of 20” hubcap wheels. Flat Out Autos said that it unveiled the K5 Tahoe Conversion at the SEMA 2019. It went into production in the spring of 2020 setting up templates and fixtures to replicate the custom sheet metal for the conversion. All the work is notably performed in-house. This includes the hand-formed door skins.

Flat Out Autos then explained that the door skins are removed and replaced as a single piece with the lip wrapped around the door structure with a hammer and dolly.  “No patched together reproduction sheet metal on these doors.”

The company went on to add that the process takes approx 90 days from tear down to final assembly.  The client can provide the Tahoe or we can source locally.
