Randy Rogers Launches His Own Whiskey Brand, and We’re Here For It

by Clayton Edwards

Country music fans with keen taste and a love for the Texas sound already know Randy Rogers. He and his namesake band have been pressing albums and tearing up stages for more than 20 years. They’ve released a dozen records between studio and live albums. Rogers has also teamed up with Wade Bowen for a pair of duet records. They dropped a new single ahead of an upcoming record earlier this month. However, Rogers wasn’t content to stay confined to the music business. As of mid-September, he’s also one of many artists to release their own whiskey.

Randy Rogers, Eric Chase, Cary Schindler, Ash Wineinger, and Michal Devers teamed up with booze-industry vet Steve Luttmann to bring the brand to life, according to The Whiskey Wash. It’s called Bahnbrecker. The name is derived from the German word for “trailblazer” and if their first offering is any indication, it’s a fitting moniker.

The first whiskey from Randy Rogers’ New Braunfels, Texas-based distillery is something no one has seen before. They leaned heavily on the town’s German heritage for inspiration. Slow River Blend combines Texan whiskey with German beer for the perfect tribute to the Texas town.

Slow River Blend is the first-ever Hefeweizen-style whiskey. If you’re not familiar with Hefeweizen, it’s a German beer with notes of caramel, lemon, and clove. Randy Rogers’ brand’s first whiskey features the same notes. According to the brand, Slow River Blend is made with Texas and Midwestern wheat and macerated with lemon peel and cloves. The end result is a smooth-drinking whiskey with notes of lemon, clove, caramel, and vanilla.

Randy Rogers Speaks on His New Whiskey

In a prepared statement, the Texas country singer talked a little about the whiskey and its inspiration. Randy Rogers said, “We wanted to create something that the people who came before us in this great community of New Braunfels would be proud of. I think you’re going to find that this craft whiskey distinguishes itself from others.”

Rogers went on to say, “Slow River Blend gives you this aroma, it gives you this flavor of the lemon and the clove blended with your whiskey that creates this Hefeweizen taste, this Hefeweizen spirit that is the spirit of New Braunfels.”

Do you want to check out Randy Rogers’ new whiskey? Well, if you’re in Texas, it should be easy. They plan to put it in restaurants, bars, and liquor stores across the state. However, if you live anywhere else in the US, you can go to the Bahbrecker website and order a bottle straight from the source. On the site, they note that Slow River Blend is great no matter how you drink it – neat, on the rocks, or combined with your favorite mixer or soda.
