Social media is a double-edged sword. It gives us access to our favorite stars and best friends. At the same time, it is a breeding ground for just about any kind of negativity you can think of. For some, scrolling through some social apps is a great way to raise blood pressure and lower faith in humanity. Much of that negativity comes from the opinions of people we may never see in person. Danielle Colby has this heavily on her mind this morning.
Earlier today, American Pickers star Danielle Colby took to her Instagram to share an amazingly eye-catching photo with her followers. However, the long caption on the post is drawing more attention. In that caption, she discusses the downside of social media and the opinions that people share there. Check out the photo. Then, we’ll get into the caption.
Danielle Colby’s Opinion on Opinions
Danielle Colby kicked off her post with the old adage, “Opinions are like a–holes, everybody’s got one and they all stink,” noting that we hear it regularly. Then, she goes on to pose an interesting question. “How much more enjoyable would our lives be if they did not rely on the approval and opinions of random people we have never met?” That sounds like it would be a massive improvement over our current situation.
Then, Danielle Colby dropped a massive truth bomb on her followers. “Humans are not designed to have social media followers and friends in masses,” she stated. Then, the Queen of Rust explained her position. She said that that widespread interaction is “too much of a strain,” on our minds and hearts. Seeking the approval of strangers on the internet just makes it worse. Colby added that it isn’t just her that believes this. It is, in fact, an issue that is being taken very seriously by the psychiatric community.
After that, Danielle Colby asked her followers to briefly imagine a world without social media. She said, “How much more full, rich, textural [would] our experiences be if we didn’t shame ourselves for being in them? How much more clearly would we think if we didn’t have to think about all of the thinks that other people think we think?”
She ended that portion of the caption by saying that today is a good day to clear our heads of the BS opinions that other people pile on them. After all, those people usually don’t know the truth of the matter. After that, she discusses the truth and how important it is.
