Arby’s Taking Fan-Favorite Item off of Menu, Announces Replacement

Bad news for fans of Arby’s popular menu item Potato Cakes. On the contrary, it’s good news for French fry lovers. Yet another customer favorite is leaving the fast-food chain, and in its beloved place enters the new Crinkle Fries.

According to FoxNews.com, the company’s website reported on Monday that the fast-food chain decided to stop selling Potato Cakes after releasing its new Crinkle Fries as a permanent menu item alongside Arby’s famous Curly Fries.

As of last Tuesday, Potato Cakes were still available for their online menu. Described by Arby’s as “shredded potato fried to a crispy golden brown. It’s a cake of potato. Don’t over-complicate this.”

A spokesperson from the food chain explained how their new Crinkles appeared to be a huge hit. Following months of extensive market testing.

“Our Curlies have long been a fan favorite, but after many months of R&D and extensive market testing, customers made it clear our all-new Crinkles were a hit and we had created a true companion on equal footing to its legendary predecessor,” he told The Takeout.

The description of Crinkle Fries on Arby’s website reads, “Have a little crinkle in your fries. Experience the savory goodness of accordion-style crinkle fries from Arby’s & order online now.”

Don’t worry your favorite potato side could return. The spokesperson hinted that even though the Potato Cakes have been discontinued for now, they might not be gone forever.

According to The Takeout, Arby’s Potato Cakes are expected to be removed from menus on June 1.

The Story Behind Arby’s New Crinkle Fries

Most of us are familiar with the iconic Arby’s Curly Fries. Now, introducing a new fry that’s sure to win over customers as well. Fried to a golden crisp, the fast-food chain’s culinary team created them to grab the attention of classic fry fans.

According to Stories.InspireBrands.com, Arby’s vice president of culinary innovation & brand executive Neville Craw says research is also a crucial part to the change.

“Our research, from a popularity standpoint, showed that crinkle fries seemed to have the most enjoyment and appeal to guests who wanted a different fry,” Craw said. “There are hundreds of size choices, length and potato types. Once we got into crinkle, there was a multitude of iterations we went through before landing on what we did. But Josh Mcnelly on my team worked to find the perfect balance of flash, fry and crunchiness.”

Craw reassures us Curly Fries aren’t going anywhere. Next time you decide to order Arby’s, will it be curly or crinkle?
