Beirut Explosion: Street Level Video Reveals Massive Cloud Burst

Stunning new videos show the massive cloud burst from the Beirut explosion on Tuesday (August August 4). according to Chief of Lebanese General Security, Abbas Ibrahim, the explosion could have been caused by 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse that was confiscated from a ship. The blast killed 135 people and injured 5,000 and was equal to a 3.3 magnitude earthquake.

The Video

Karim Sokhn captured the moment the explosion took place. The video shows the initial burst and push back of the blast with a mushroom-like cloud that began turning into a larger than life cloud of destruction. The video shows Sokhn taking cover before showing the blast from further away.

Additionally, Ralph El Hage took a video from a different point of view that was further back. His clip showed just how massive and high the cloud burst was.

Another Viral Video

Numerous people caught the moment on film. One of the most viral videos was a clip of a bride being rocked by the Beirut explosion.

Bride Israa Seblani and now-husband Ahmad Subeih spoke to The Guardian about the day. As a United States doctor, Seblani aided to those who were injured in Saifi Square.

“I have been preparing for my big day for two weeks and I was so happy like all other girls,” she explained. “I am getting married. My parents are going to be happy seeing me in a white dress, I will be looking like a princess. What happened during the explosion here – there is no word to explain. I was shocked, I was wondering what happened, am I going to die? How am I going to die?”

“We started to walk around and it was extremely sad, it was not describable the devastation and the sound of the explosion,” Subeih added. “We are still in shock … I have never heard anything similar to the sound of this explosion.”

The couple feels lucky to have made it out alive and were able to continue with their wedding celebrations.
