Ben Shapiro Goes Viral for Calling Donald Trump’s Victory Claims ‘Deeply Irresponsible’

Shortly after 2 a.m., EST Wednesday, Donald Trump claimed he had won a second term as president of the United States. The only problem was he hadn’t won — not yet at least. In fact, he was losing the popular vote and had fewer electoral college votes than challenger Joe Biden at the time. But Trump felt his leads in battleground states were insurmountable, and he vowed a legal battle over counting ballots, Newsweek said.

Constitutional and legal scholars immediately denounced the president’s comments. Even supporters such as Ben Shapiro, the popular Republican personality and author called the comments “deeply irresponsible” in a tweet.

Shapiro wasn’t the only Republican to bristle at Trump’s comment.

The president said the way votes were being collected and counted in some states was a “fraud,” though he didn’t go into specifics of what he meant. It appears he was referencing the possibility of fake votes being added to the count after voting had ended, but again, he provided no evidence.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum said it was wrong for Trump to call the process a “fraud.”

“I was very distressed by what I heard the president say,” he said on CNN, according to Newsweek. “The idea of saying, using the word fraud, by people counting votes is wrong.”

He defended stopping the counts in some areas, referencing Pennsylvania, due to it rolling into the early hours, so those involved will be tired.

“I understand the president feels like it’s a grievance against him and somehow or another this is another example of the media not treating him fairly, I would just say I could not disagree more in this case,” he said.

Even James Woods, the actor, Twitter troll and Trump loyalist, called out the president for his remarks.

What did Ben Shapiro call irresponsible?

So what did President Donald Trump say to upset Ben Shapiro?

Here’s that portion of the transcript of Trump’s early morning speech.

“… This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election, frankly we did win this election. We did win this election. So our goal now is to ensure the integrity for the good of this nation, this is a very big moment. This is a major fraud on our nation. We want the law to be used in the proper manner.

“So we will be going to the U.S. Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop. We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4 o’clock in the morning and add them to the list. OK? It’s a very sad, it’s a very sad moment. To me, this is a very sad moment, and we will win this, and as far as I’m concerned, we already have won it.”
