Blake Shelton Country Song Serves as Inspiration for a New Hallmark Christmas Movie

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is releasing a new holiday movie, Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas. The movie is based on the 2012 song “Time for Me to Come Home” by Blake Shelton and on the 2013 novel of the same title by Shelton’s mother Dorothy Shackleford and Travis Thrasher.

Shelton Executive Produced the Film

Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas follows 2019’s Time for You to Come Home for Christmas and 2018’s Time for Me to Come Home for Christmas. All three drew their inspiration from Shelton’s song, which he recorded with Shackleford, Wide Open Country reports.

Blake Shelton is one of the executive producers of this year’s movie. Shackleford talked about how some of Shelton’s personality strengths informed the fictional story in a 2018 Country Living interview.

A Christmas Mystery

In the movie, five guests get special invites to travel to the Snowfall Inn for Christmas. Sarah (Lacey Chabert) is back in her hometown to settle her mother’s affairs. She is under the impression that the trip is a gift from her law firm. Karen (Lini Evans), a divorcee alone for the holidays, believes she won her trip in a contest. Widower Jasper (Leon) thinks his wife planned the trip. Ben (Stephen Huszar) owns the inn.

But when they get there, they soon realize their invites arrived in the same red envelopes from a mysterious sender. Sarah is determined to solve the mystery and discover what connects her and her fellow guests. She cooperates with Ben to figure it out, and in the process, she and Ben fall for each other.

“I particularly love this movie because there is a mystery involved,” Chabert said in a behind-the-scenes video clip from Hallmark. “In the beginning of the story, my character gets this interesting invitation to spend Christmas at an inn. She thinks it’s from her office. Come to find out, it’s not. So the mystery begins.”
