Brian Laundrie Reportedly Seen Hitchhiking After Gabby Petito Last Spoke with Family

When it comes to a missing person’s case, authorities have little choice but to follow every lead and every tip. Even the most speculatory statements deserve investigation because ignoring them could mean missing a huge clue. In the case of Gabby Petito’s disappearance, this is exactly the mindset that police have.

Since reaching out to the public for help, the FBI has received plenty of information on Gabby Petito and her person-of-interest fiancé, Brian Laundrie. But as seasoned investigators know, they have to take these tips with a grain of salt. Not only is this so that they don’t waste resources on unnecessary avenues, but it’s also to protect the family. Every lead must be treated with an air of skepticism to keep loved ones from getting their hopes too high.

One of the more controversial sources of intel comes from a TikTok account. In a four-part video, the user known as Miranda Baker claimed that she and her boyfriend picked up Laundrie in her car while en route to Jackson Hole, Wyoming on August 29. This was four days after Gabby Petito last spoke to her family to tell them that they had arrived at the Grand Tetons and one day before the 22-year-old allegedly sent a final text message to her mother. Though, Petito’s mother suspects that the message may not have come from her daughter at all.

TikTok User Claims Gabby Petito’s Fiancé Became ‘Antsy’ While Hitchhiking

During her TikTok video, Baker stated that her alleged interaction with Laundrie “got weird” after she reiterated that the couple was heading to Jackson Hole.

“He seemed like he needed to get out. He was kind of antsy,” Baker shared.

Roughly 25 minutes into the drive, Laundrie asked to get out, according to the TikTok user. She also stated that Gabby Petito’s fiancé then crossed the street and headed towards a nearby parking lot to continue hitchhiking.

Perhaps the most peculiar detail of the supposed account, though, came from Baker’s conversation with Laundrie. While trying to make small talk with the stranger, Baker claimed that Laundrie admitted that his fianceé worked in social media from the back of a van. He also allegedly stated that he had been hiking along Snake River for several days. Though, according to Baker, the backpack Gabby Petito’s fiancé carried was nearly empty.

“You think if you’re going camping for days on end you’d want food and a tent and he had none of that,” Baker said in her video.

Since posting her account, Baker claims to have shared this information with the FBI. However, the Bureau has not confirmed meeting with the witness. Investigators have also found remains at Grand Teton National Park matching Gabby Petito’s description. They are still awaiting confirmation to determine the identity.
