In disappointing automotive news, Ford has canceled its plans to build a Bronco pickup truck.
The truck, which Ford intended to be a Jeep Gladiator competitor, was going to have a short bed and a large cabin. The design would have been somewhat boxy, like the newest Bronco SUV. And enthusiasts expected the vehicle to be more affordable than the Gladiator.
And although many Bronco fans were looking forward to its release, Ford has apparently nixed the concept altogether—as sources say. The motor company has yet to comment.
MOTORTREND speculates that Ford wanted to focus on their other projects, such as the compact Maverick pickup. And perhaps the company was wary about introducing another Bronco when the 2020 re-release of the SUV fell a little flat after manufacturing problems.
Even though we won’t be seeing the pickup truck in the near future, fans can rest assured that the other Bronco projects are still moving forward. Ford still plans to release the Branco hybrid and Branco Raptor.
Ford Launches New Bronco Color
Even though plans for the Bronco pickup truck were apparently put on the backburner, the company is still working to perfect their Bronco SUVs. On Tuesday (August 24th), the company unveiled a new color for the SUV, which they named Eruption Green. The color is a throwback to the first-generation Bronco model that hit the market four decades ago.
Ford had some issues out of the gate when they released their 2021 Bronco. But they’ve since recuperated. The SUV is reportedly sold out until next year. So Ford is looking for ways to keep customers wanting more. And they’re doing that by giving people new design options.
In a press release, the company said that designers developed the new color as a “modern interpretation” of Mallard Green. Mallard green premiered on Bronco models in the 1970s.
Ford color and materials manager, Barb Whalen, said, “Automotive enthusiasts, and especially Bronco fans, are passionate about colors and will be excited about Eruption Green.” She then added that “Paint has a wonderful way of evolving because of technology. Eruption Green is a contemporary color, but there’s a connection with Bronco heritage. “It’s evergreen-inspired, with yellow highlights that really tie it into nature.”
Ford Motor Company also stated that the colors Antimatter Blue, Lightning Blue Metallic, and Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat will remain as options through the end of 2021. Customers will be able to choose the new Eruption Green and Hot Pepper Red for pre-orders this fall and winter.
