Bruce Willis elected not to wear a mask Tuesday when he was shopping in a Los Angeles drug store. An employee asked him to cover his face, but the movie star opted to leave.

Given that Willis is so well known, the incident made national news. An unnamed source told Fox News that Willis appeared “disgruntled” when he was asked to wear a mask. The source said he was making other customers “uncomfortable.” Yet Willis also was wearing a bandana around his neck. He reportedly never pulled it up to cover his mouth and nose.

Now, Willis wants his fans to know that his decision was a poor one.

In a statement to People magazine, Willis said: “It was an error in judgment. Be safe out there everyone and let’s continue to mask up.”

The mask incident happened at a Los Angeles area Rite Aid. Last June, the national chain started requiring its customers to wear face coverings while in person shopping in all stores. Rite Aid isn’t alone. A number of retail outlets require masks as a way to tamp down on the rapid spread of COVID-19.

California Is Hardest Hit State in U.S.

Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, ordered people to wear face coverings last year when they were out in public. There are exceptions for people with disabilities and children two years old or younger.

California is the most hard hit state in the country. And the state continues to add restrictions to try and get the virus spread under control. As of Wednesday morning, the state reported more than 2.8 million confirmed cases and more than 10,000 deaths.

Bruce Willis Spent Much of Quarantine in Idaho With Ex Wife Demi Moore And Their Daughters

Since Tuesday, Willis hadn’t been seen publicly in Los Angeles since the early days of the pandemic. He chose to quarantine in a unique way. Willis isolated with Demi Moore, his ex wife, and their three adult daughters, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah at their home in Idaho.

Meanwhile, Willis’ current wife and two young daughters stayed in Los Angeles. Scout Willis said the initial plan was for everyone to quarantine in Idaho. But before they left, her younger sister stepped on a needle at a park. Scout said her stepmother and two sisters stuck around Los Angeles waiting for test results. Scout Willis said “then travel got crazy so my stepmom stayed in LA with my little sisters.”
