Bubba Wallace is letting his fans know that he thinks about the recent NASCAR TV ratings boost. The 26-year-old athlete took to social media on Thursday to share his reaction to the surprising news.
The No. 43 driver retweeted a graphic from @TunityAnalytics that shows the “top ten most-watched sporting events” from this past weekend. The results show that NASCAR claimed the top spot with the NBA coming in second followed by the NHL.
Wallace reacted with a GIF from the popular cartoon, “Spongebob Squarepants.” After posting the tweet, a number of Wallace’s fans and followers weighed in to share their thoughts.
Was Bubba Wallace Mocking President Trump?
One fan credits Wallace with regaining his viewership. “I had stopped watching NASCAR when Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. retired,” one user writes. “You’ve rekindled my interest in the sport and now I have a reason to watch again. Thank you, Mr. Wallace.”
Another fan speculates that NASCAR’s TV ratings increased because many of the sport’s athletes choose to stand during the national anthem. “NASCAR drivers don’t get on a knee!!!” a Twitter user writes. “No wonder more are watching NASCAR than the other discriminating sports.”
One responder considers the TV ratings as a promising indication for NASCAR’s future. “I guess the rumors of NASCAR’s demise are greatly exaggerated,” a user writes. “Helps that there’s been some outstanding racing too.”
After the Bubba Wallace garage pull noose controversy, President Trump predicted a TV ratings drop for NASCAR. A handful of fans thought Wallace’s tweet was his way of mocking the President’s thoughts.
“Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!” President Trump said in a tweet.
