Major beer brands such as Budweiser, Molson Coors, and Anheuser-Busch are taking to social media to share messages of unity in the midst of the George Floyd protests.
In a brief statement, the beer company details its purpose and responsibility to the community. Budweiser also voices its support for its Black employees and affiliates.
“Our purpose is to bring people together,” the statement reads. “We stand with our black employees, partners, and communities. Hate, prejudice, and discrimination will never have a seat at our table.”
In addressing the protests, Molson Coors emphasizes that no form of discrimination is acceptable in the company. “Racism, inequity, injustice, disenfranchisement cannot be supported, tolerated or ignored,” the statement reads. “And we must be honest with ourselves and with each other that we aren’t where we need to be today.”
Molson Coors acknowledges work that needs done in the country’s healing process. “We all have work to do,” the statement continues. “Our company has work to do. Our community has work to do. While none of us can fix the long history of collective failures, we can stand together for a better future.”
Since the release of the statement on June 3, Molson Coors employees are vowing to stay off social media. “This week we have turned off all our social media across North America, and we are redirecting all $1.5 million of those funds to support organizations dedicated to equality, empowerment, justice and community building,” the statement concludes.
On June 4, Anheuser-Busch released a statement to address the protests and issue of racism on a larger scale. “Our nation is hurting. Inequality in our society impacts us all, and demands our full attention,” the statement reads. “For many, and in particular our Black employees and the broader Black community, the sadness, frustration, and fear are deep and personal.
In such divisive times, Anheuser-Busch aims to be a uniting force. “It is in moments like this that family, community and purpose are foremost in our minds,” the statement continues. “Our purpose at Anheuser-Busch is bringing people together.”
The company rejects any form of racism and discrimination. “We oppose discrimination of any kind. We stand with those who are speaking out to encourage change and working towards a world where equality and inclusion are celebrated,” the statement reads.
In conclusion, Anheuser-Busch addresses the challenge the United States is facing. “Our country’s resiliency is being tested, so we must rise to the challenge and work towards a better world where we truly cherish and celebrate one another,” the statement reads. “We are committed to doing our part. Our family of brands is supporting organizations like the National Urban League. We’ll have more to share soon.”
