California Wildfires: Social Media Influencer Getting Wrecked Over Photos

Social Media Influencer Colette LeClair has been taking some backlash after a post on her Instagram is seen as insensitive during the devastation of the California wildfires.

Colette LeClair has over 30.3 thousand followers on her Instagram account, coletteleclair_

The San Francisco blogger posted two pictures of herself wearing a single-shoulder, bright orange tulle ballgown. She poses on a beach, in front of the waves with a sky that is another shade of orange, due to the numerous wildfires along the West Coast. You can barely see through the smoke and fog a bridge in the distance of the second picture.

The post was to originally commemorate her last day in San Francisco before moving to Los Angeles and to sell the dress in the photo.

‘We Live in Hell’

According to Yahoo, follower Caroline Moss screenshotted the photo and posted it to Twitter with the caption “WE LIVE IN HELL (this is an influencer who just posted a photo of clothing she’s selling by *posing in it* on the beach in San Francisco as forest fires rage around her).”

From the original screenshotted photo and caption, LeClair is attempting to drive her audience to her blog.

The caption has been changed as of Thursday, and the comments for the post have been turned off. Moss’s tweet, along with her twitter account, have been deleted.

The new caption reflects on the wildfires and its victims.

“My last day here! Wanted to say goodbye to the ocean and beach and do something I used to enjoy so much here for years- TRIPOD PHOTOS😂. Currently gathering a lot of clothes to donate-yay! this one will not make it with me to LA, but there is someone here who will adore it.”

She adds, “and to Clarify- I drove to the beach on my last night in town, and took photos, I love taking photos. I have taken photos for the last 3 years in this city. I love this city. There have been fires going on for weeks in California. It is devastating. Prayers for people dealing with the fires. SENDING YOU ALL LOVE.”

Twitter’s Response to the Influencer

The post has received a little over 1,800 likes, yet people are still angry on Twitter.
