Carrie Underwood discussed her Christmas traditions and talked about the difficulties of holiday travel when you have family in multiple countries. The county music superstar spoke with People about her favorite time of the year and her new single “Favorite Time of the Year.”

“We love decorating the house, and we always get the boys their own tree they can decorate any way they like,” she told the magazine. “And, of course, it’s all about music and food!”

Underwood and husband Mike Fisher have two boys, Isaiah, 5, and Jacob, 21 months.

Underwood said she’s spent 2020 obsessed with Christmas. Her latest album, My Gift, which was released in September, is filled with Christmas staples and some of her favorite holiday songs. The album also includes a cover of “Little Drummer Boy” that features her son Isaiah.

“I started working on this album last fall and recorded it in the spring … so I’ve literally been living with Christmas music for a year now!” she told People. “I hope the album will be a soundtrack for people as they prepare for and celebrate Christmas. That would make me happy.”

It’s clear fans like the album. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country, Christian and Holiday charts.

But as Underwood clearly loves Christmas, she said it’s still a stressful time of year. Aside from her busy schedule, there are serious logistical challenges for her family. Most of her family lives in Oklahoma while Fisher’s family is in Ontario.

“Most of our family lives in Oklahoma and Canada, so we usually spend a lot of time during the holidays traveling,” she says.  “For all of the challenges this year has presented, it’s been a surprisingly busy and productive time, and we are very grateful for all we do have.”

Carrie Underwood Releases Surprise New Single

Carrie Underwood surprised fans this week with a new song. Favorite Time of the Year is exclusively streaming on Amazon as a bonus track for her album My Gift.

Favorite Time of Year is just a happy, joyful Christmas song and is all about the fun aspects of the holiday,” Underwood told People. “This is one that makes you smile when you hear it.”

Underwood recently asked fans to submit video of themselves singing and dancing to the new song.

Aside from her new album, Underwood will also star in a Christmas special for HBO Max. The special will be released by the streaming platform in December.
