Thomas Rhett gave an epic performance of “Christmas in the Country” during the 2020 CMA Country Christmas.
Rhett had the opportunity to perform his original, “Christmas In The Country.” The song itself was inspired by his family traditions during the holidays. He and his wife and co-host, Lauren Akins, spend Christmas time out on their farm. He revealed that they put up a giant Christmas tree in their barn and deck it out for the season.
Rhett took the stage with Akins looking on. Rhett galavanted down the stairs and grabbed his guitar to kick off the performance. His full band backed him during the show with lit-up wreaths surrounding them.
Furthermore, this marked Akins first time hosting anything. “My favorite part so far is getting to do something in the most magical space,” Akins said. “Everything is decked out, it’s like Christmas just threw up all in this place. It’s my dream come true.”

What Thomas Rhett Had to Say
This year their family is spending Christmas almost like any other. A positive aspect of the pandemic is that Rhett is home for the extended holidays. Christmas is Akins’ favorite time of year and is “better” at the holiday than her husband.
“It definitely has been a challenging year for everybody,” Rhett said ahead of the show. “This is the first year that I’ve been home, off the road, all year. It’s going to be awesome”
“To also get to be home for Christmas morning and to watch my girls walk down the stairs,” he added. “For us, we’re just excited to spend time with our family. This year, I’ve gotten to spend more time with my girls and wife than I ever have. So I think Christmas will be a huge cherry on top for so much quality time.”
