Darius Rucker teamed up with violinist Lindsey Stirling to perform “What Child Is This?” on CMA Country Christmas special.

The Performance

Rucker and Stirling took the stage together. The scene was an array of lit-up Christmas trees. Rucker sang the sweet tune while Stirling danced along and played the violin. Stirling donned a red hood, almost like Little Red Riding Hood, while Rucker wore a coat and red scarf. Rucker stayed on the porch of a home while Stirling graced the soundstage.

This year’s show looked quite different. Due to COVID-19 health and safety precautions, there was no live audience. The eleventh annual event took place on a set with co-hosts Thomas Rhett alongside his wife and best-selling author, Lauren Akins.

The show featured a star-studded lineup. With memorable performances like “Santa Baby” from Kelsea Ballerini. Lady A performed a stunning rendition of “Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time.” Rucker and Stirling were the only collaborators during the special.

What Darius Rucker Had to Say

“To be able to sing ‘What Child Is This?’ with Lindsey is amazing,” he said prior to the show. “Robert [producer] called me and asked me if I wanted to do it. I was so honored. She is an amazing musician.”

“I was so excited to work with Darius,” Stirling added. “His voice is so just raw and powerful. He’s an iconic voice. I was stoked to be able to work with him, especially on this song which has a waltz to it. I felt like I got to waltz around the stage with Darius.”

Rucker is no stranger to Christmas music. In 2014, he released his holiday album, Home For the Holidays. On the record, he performed twelve classic Christmas tunes. Additionally, he performed a duet of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” alongside Sheryl Crow.
