2021 CMT Music Awards Announces Official Date

The 2021 CMT Music Awards are coming this summer!

Country Music Television made the big air date announcement on Thursday. The show will provide 2 and a half hours of performances, epic collaborations, and winners. The 2021 CMT Music Awards will air on Wednesday, June 9 at 7 PM CT.

The show will be broadcasted on CMT with other simulcast networks will be announced in the coming weeks.

According to the press release, the show will take place around Music City. More details will be announced at a later date.

Last year’s show took place across outdoor venues in Nashville, Tennessee. The show that was originally slated to take place over the summer, was delayed to October due to the pandemic. The show aired on MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land.  

Last year, Kane Brown, Sarah Hyland and Ashley McBryde co-hosted the show together. The 2018 and 2019 award shows were held at the Bridgestone Arena and both were hosted by Little Big Town.

All About the CMT Music Awards

The CMT Awards are the only fan-voted country awards show. The show began in 2002 to honor the finest country music videos.

Furthermore, Carrie Underwood has 20 CMT Music Awards wins to date and is the most-awarded artist in history. Underwood also has the record for having the most Video of the Year wins with eight. Aside from the American Idol winner, no artist or band has won the coveted award more than three times. Last year, Underwood’s “Drinking Alone” video won the honor.

“Fans, you guys never cease to amaze me at how hard you work,” Underwood said while accepting the award from her living room couch. “Just, thank you so much. This one is really all about you guys, especially because we, again, haven’t been together, but I just feel so loved this evening.”

Underwood revealed that she has an entire hallway dedicated to her awards. She needs the room, especially as she has 20 CMT Music Awards trophies alone. “They’re definitely on display because I’m really proud of them,” she added.

Gabby Barrett took home the 2020 award for Breakthrough Video of the Year for “I Hope.” Jennifer Nettles received the CMT Equal Play Award for her work to include women on country radio. Additionally, Gwen Stefani took home her first CMT Music Award win with fiance Blake Shelton for Collaborative Video for “Nobody But You.” Finally, The Chicks, who have earned their first CMT nomination since 2007 in Video of the Year for “Gaslighter.”
