What Last Year’s Awards Looked Like

Despite a difficult year in the music world, artists are gearing up to win big at the 55th CMA Awards.

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, November 10 starting at 8 p.m. ET. It will be televised live on ABC from the Bridgestone Arena located in Nashville, Tennessee.

Last year it was artists like Eric Church, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban leading the pack. Lambert had seven nods that night. Following close behind her was Luke Combs with six nominations, Maren Morris with five, and Dan + Shay with four.

Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker took the stage as hosts in 2020. Also, Justin Bieber was up for his first CMA nomination because of his “10,000 Hours” song with Dan + Shay. It was nominated for single of the year, musical event of the year, and music video of the year.

Highlights For This Year’s Award’s Show

This year it’s Chris Stapleton and Eric Church leading the nominations for the 55th annual CMA Awards. Both artists have five nominations each.

They have nominations in the same categories for entertainer of the year, male vocalist of the year, album of the year, as well as single and song of the year. Eric Church released his popular “Heart” album and Stapleton his “Starting Over” collection.

Not far behind is a country music newcomer, Gabby Barrett, who has four nominations in her name for the November ceremony. She was formerly on “American Idol” and her debut album “Goldmine” came out in June 2020.

All the Stars Are Coming Out

While Miranda Lambert led in nominations last year, her numbers decreased a bit for 2021. She only has three nods, seeing as she hasn’t put out a new album this year to up her numbers. Lambert remains untouchable as the most nominated woman ever in the history of the CMAs.

She is up for entertainer of the year, female vocalist of the year, and musical event of the year for the Elle King Collaboration, “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home.”) She’s reached for that prestigious entertainer of the year award five other times in the past, but has come back empty-handed each time.

The hosts or co-hosts for the 2021 ceremony are unknown at this time.

Gabby Barrett, Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, and Carly Pearce are all battling for female vocalist of the year. Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett, and Chris Stapleton are battling for male vocalist of the year.

As for the newcomers, Jimmie Allen, Ingrid Andress, Barrett, Mickey Guyton, and Hardy are all nominated for new artist of the year. Lady A, Little Big Town, Midland, Old Dominion, and Zac Brown Band are all up for the vocal group of the year.
