All you dedicated Alan Jackson fans already know that he recently dropped a new album, Where Have You Gone. It’s his first album of entirely new music in six years. But it was certainly worth the wait. The new album is full of great songs including, “So Late So Soon.”
“So Late So Soon” is the perfect late-night slow-dance song. The song is about how quickly time passes when you’re in love. During the song, Jackson sings to his lover as the night passes by. He sings, “Oh, I could’ve sworn not long ago, the sun was only starting to go down. But when did all the stars fade just like the moon? When did that early bird start singing his first tune? And how’d it get so late so soon?”
Alan Jackson has been hyping his new album via Twitter by sharing behind-the-scenes videos about each of the songs on the album. Today, he talked about “So Late So Soon.” He said that he was first drawn to the song by its “swing” sounds.
“First song is a little different,” said Jackson. “You know it kind of almost had a little swing kind of feel to it, to me. I don’t know why I feel that way but I do.”
Alan Jackson added that he could imagine someone like country music legend Merle Haggard recording the song. And who wouldn’t want to record a song that Haggard would have performed?!
“And I could hear somebody like Haggard or someday doing it with the right track behind it,” added Jackson. “Anyway, so I just thought it was really pretty.
However, Jackson said that he had some reservations about recording the song at first.
“It was a little different for me,” said Jackson. “And I was a little hesitant about cutting it.”
Luckily his wife Denise, most likely the woman who would be slow dancing with Jackson to this song, suggested that he cut it. And when your forever-love suggests you record a song, you do it!
“But Denise really liked it so I did it,” said Jackson. “And now I hear a lot of comments about it as well.”
However, there’s one thing that Alan Jackson still isn’t sure about when it comes to the song.
“But it’s a beautiful song. It might be too pretty for me, but I did the best I could do,” Jackson added with a laugh.
Alan Jackson Says He Doesn’t Care About Landing Hit Songs Anymore
Certainly, Alan Jackson is a country music icon. Since his debut in 1987 Jackson has racked up 26 number one hit songs. But, during a recent interview about his latest album, Jackson said that he’s no longer interested in producing hit songs.
“I don’t know if they’ll get it on the chart or Billboard stations as much anymore, but they might,” said Jackson. “But you know what? I don’t care. I’m not bitter about it. I’m 62 years old. I know it’s time and that’s just the way it is. I’ve had more hits than just about anybody, and I can’t ask for anything more.”
