You know it’s true love when your partner is your biggest fan. And that was certainly the case for Alan Jackson and his wife.

Long before he even had a music career, Denise Jackson was definitely her husband’s biggest fan. Denise worked as a flight attendant early on in the couple’s marriage. While working one day, she saw singer Glen Campbell at the airport. In the name of helping her husband get his big break, she decided to talk to him. She told Campbell about her husband, Alan, who was an aspiring country singer. Campbell gave her his business card and his company ended up signing Alan Jackson to his first songwriting deal. The rest is country music history.

Despite challenges and even a period of separation, the two have been married for 41 years. He even wrote a song for Denise, “Remember When.” I would definitely want a song too if I landed my husband his first songwriting gig!

During an interview, Alan Jackson shared how he and Denise keep the marriage alive after all these years.

“We get up in the morning and drink coffee together and talk, and I can’t go to bed at night if she’s downstairs watching television. We go to bed together, unless I’m out of town,” Jackson said. “It’s just little things I think that have helped us more than anything. If you can last until you’re 40 years old, hopefully, you’ll be mature enough to figure out the rest of the years.”

Denise Also Inspired Alan Jackson To Write This Lesser-Known Song

Almost every Alan Jackson fan knows “Remember When.” But Denise inspired Alan to write another lesser-known song about their love. The song, “Once In a Lifetime Love,” is on Alan’s critically acclaimed album Drive. Jackson released the album in 2002 and won the Album of the Year award at the 2003 ACMs.

During the song, Alan Jackson sings about the complexities of love. He says that, although it’s difficult at times, love is worth fighting for. Just the first verse of the song perfectly summarizes the beauty and confusing nature of love. He sings, “Some people have it. And some people don’t. Some people never will. Sometimes it’s hard to know when you got it. Sometimes it’s perfectly clear.”

Jackson then cautions listeners to look closer at the love they have in their lives. He says that we too often don’t recognize that we have great love of our own. Jackson sings, “Once in a lifetime love. Love like we’ve all dreamed of. It may go disguised right before your eyes. Once in a lifetime love.”

Thanks for the reminder, Alan Jackson.
