The American Music Association Awards will have a little more country music representation after all. Darius Rucker announced a surprise collaboration with Katy Perry at tonight’s (Nov. 22) AMA Awards.

Rucker and Perry will perform a rendition of Perry’s new song “Only Love” at the ceremony. Previously, Perry announced she would debut the new song during the AMAs. It is currently unclear whether that means Rucker will join Perry on the studio version of the song or whether this is a one-off performance.

The musicians announced their duet via Twitter. Rucker wrote, “Excited to share that I’ll be joining @KatyPerry for a special performance of #OnlyLove on the @AMAs.”

Meanwhile, Perry responded with praise of her own while hyping the upcoming performance. She also wrote, “Went back to church, met a new friend @dariusrucker and found #OnlyLove.”

Recently, Rucker has had his fair share of performing during awards ceremonies. For instance, he just co-hosted the 2020 CMA Awards with Reba McEntire. In addition to hosting, the duo performed a special rendition of “In the Ghetto,” which they released following the ceremony.

Dan + Shay Will Also Perform at the AMA Awards

Country music’s other biggest and only act of the night will be Dan + Shay. The AMA previously announced the duo will be the only country act performing during the event. Several prominent country musicians have been nominated for awards, however, including Blake Shelton, Luke Combs, and Miranda Lambert.

It is unknown what the duo will perform, but the two recently performed “10,000 Hours” at the CMA Awards with Justin Bieber. That song is up for the AMA Favorite Country Song category. The duo is also nominated for Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Duo or Group (Country).
