Based on the current lineup, country music will be significantly under-represented at the American Music Awards. Currently, Dan + Shay are the only country music stars performing at the awards ceremony.

The duo made a name for themselves by toeing the line between the pop and country genre. Some of their successes within the pop space have included hits such as “Speechless” and “I Should Probably Go to Bed.”

They also recently released the song “10,000 Hours,” a collaboration with pop singer Justin Bieber. That collaboration has been nominated for the AMA Favorite Country Song category. Bieber will also be performing at the AMAs. Currently, it is unknown what the duo will perform or if they’ll sing with Bieber for a rendition of their song. The trio recently performed “10,000 Hours” at the CMA Awards.

Dan + Shay will join other performers like Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Shaw Mendes, and Lewis Capaldi, among others. In addition to performing, the duo is also up for three awards. They are competing in the Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Duo or Group (Country), and Favorite Song (Country) categories.

While country music may not have many performers, several of the genre’s most talented musicians are competing at the awards show. Luke Combs, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and Morgan Wallen are among several country singers up for an AMA award.

Dan + Shay Has Been Promoting Christmas Songs

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney formed in 2013 and have released three studio albums. The duo became famous for their genre-defying music, finding success in both the pop and country categories. They’ve collaborated with bands like Rascal Flatts and artists like Kelly Clarkson.

The duo recently released two Christmas-inspired singles “Christmas Isn’t Christmas” and “Take Me Home for Christmas.” The two songs explore what Christmas in 2020 during a pandemic is like and features vocals that mix both pop and country music together.

The American Music Awards will air on ABC on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. CT.
