While growing up in West Virginia Brad Paisley was a big fan of “The Andy Griffith Show.” He has even said he learned many important life lessons from Sheriff Andy Taylor and his relationship with his son, Opie.

Therefore, it’s no surprise that working with the legendary television star was a joyful experience for the country music star. So, what events led to their collaboration? And, what did Andy Griffith’s wife express to Brad Paisley about his work on the video with her husband?

According to a 2012 article in the Los Angeles Times, Paisley released the song “Waitin’ on a Woman” in 2005. The song was on the singer’s “Time Well Wasted” album. A few years later, he was finally ready to produce a music video for the song.

“I thought it was an important song, and I knew I’d come back to it somehow to get it on the radio,” Paisley told the Los Angeles Times.

Interestingly, it was actor Billy Bob Thornton who helped inspire Andy Griffith’s involvement in the music video for the song. Paisley said that his friend Peter Tilden talked to Thornton about the song and its video. Thornton then suggested Griffith as the perfect person to cast. In order to get Griffith on board for the video, Brad Paisley had to write him a letter.

“I wrote the letter and said, ‘This song epitomizes your character as well as the values and things you celebrate, and I wonder if you wanted to be in a music video.’ His wife, Cindy, was instrumental in this. It’s typical: When a woman likes something, we listen, and that’s the point of the song in some ways,” Paisley said, according to the newspaper.

Brad Paisley Visited Andy Griffith’s Home in North Carolina

Before they filmed the video for “Waitin’ on a Woman,” Brad Paisley, his wife, and son traveled to North Carolina to visit Griffith at his home. It was there that the country music singer got to spend quality time with the television star and his wife.

And when it came time to shoot the video, Brad Paisley got a chance to experience Andy Griffith at work. Unsurprisingly, the singer was very impressed with the man he had admired for so long. While talking about shooting the video with the newspaper, Paisley also shared something Griffith’s wife, Cindy, said to him.

“He was a total pro,” Paisley told the Los Angeles Times. “He was so serious about getting it right. Cindy said to me once, ‘This might be the last thing he does,’ and I think it pretty much was. That crossed our minds as we were singing about him going on and waiting for his wife in the afterlife.”

Filming the music video with Andy Griffith was an experience Brad Paisley said he will always remember.

“He couldn’t walk very well – he had bad knees – so the director asked him, ‘Would you walk off into the distance?’ He said, ‘Sure.’ The sun was setting and he walked about 100 yards,” Paisley told the newspaper. “It was unbelievable. You’re seeing him in a white suit walking off into the sun. Jim [Shea, the director] said to me, ‘I didn’t expect that. I thought he’d go about 20 feet.’ Capturing that image, I’ll never get that out of my mind. …”
