Two country music powerhouses, Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce have teamed up for a new single that is drawing rave reviews.
“Never Wanted to be That Girl” is the name of their song and it is a powerful tune that the country gals bonded over. The song is a hard truth ballad about the feeling often associated with betrayal from a loved one. A tag line for the song describes the meaning as “When a bad man happens to two good women.” The incredible country duo dropped “Never Wanted to be That Girl” today and it is already blowing up. Earlier today (Wednesday), Ashley McBride took to social media to share her latest song with her adoring fan base. It is safe to say that the country singer’s social media followers are really digging the tune.
“Women can bond over the most painful things,’ Ashley McBryde says in her Twitter post. “And we sure did. “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” with the incredible Carly Pearce is available everywhere today. Listen now at the link in bio.”
Both Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce talked about how they gained inspiration and how the song came together.
“Nobody ever thinks it will happen to them,” Pearce says. “You never see it coming, but there’s always an explanation. You know, who’d ever want to think that way about someone they love. Why would you? And so, that’s where this song started: the things you don’t see because you’d never look.”

Pearce was also highly complimentary of Ashley McBryde, calling her a great writer and the song a “reality bomb.”
“Ashley is such a great drop-into-the-moment writer, she was able to bring that reality bomb truth to what we were doing,” she continues. “She’s fearless, and she understands human nature in a way that let us both really write to the hurt of realizing we’ve been lied to by someone we’re intimate with.”
Ashley McBryde was also highly complimentary of Pearce’s work on the song, saying she’s a very honest writer.
“Carly isn’t afraid to face the less potable subjects,” Ashley McBryde says. “As a writer, she’s willing to get in there and get very honest. Writing this song together with Shane strengthened our friendship and taught us more about one another and ourselves. Seriously, nobody wants to be the other woman. And when you find you are … damn. It’s such a gut punch.”
The song, which is destined to be a hit, will appear on Carly Pearce’s upcoming album “29 Written in Stone,” which is due out later this week.
Be sure and check the song out, country music fans, and let us know what you think.
