Keith Urban and Chris Stapleton are just some of the country artists that released breathtaking love songs in 2020.

“God Whispered Your Name” – Keith Urban

Who could forget Keith Urban and his absolutely breathtaking single “God Whispered Your Name”? The upbeat ballad was written by James Slater, Shy Carter, Micah Carter, and Chris August. Urban co-produced the “most extraordinary song” alongside Dan McCarroll.

Urban told The Country Daily that the song spoke to him the first time he heard it. “The opening line, ‘I was so cold and lost / and nothing seemed to ring true,’” he said. “God, I know that place so well, and the rest of the song unfolded, and I just followed it every step of the way. At the end of the day if I’m gonna record a song that I didn’t write, like this one, then it’s gonna be a song that speaks to me really strongly.”

The song is about a man’s journey of discovering the love of his life after going through a rough patch. Feeling the sunshine again comes when he finds his wife. Furthermore, the tune scored No. 25 on Billboard’s year end Country Airplay chart.

“Starting Over” – Chris Stapleton

“Starting Over” by Chris Stapleton tells the story of making a new life with your significant other. He acknowledges the rough roads that the couple will follow but will persevere through the storms ahead.

Stapleton co-wrote the epic tune with frequent collaborator, Mike Henderson. According to Song Facts, Stapleton tested out the new song in West Palm Beach, Florida, show on October 12, 2019. The song peaked No. 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart and overall reached No. 69 on the year-end chart.

“Nobody But You” – Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani

The song was originally written for Blake Shelton to sing solo, however, he pulled his fiancee in at the last minute. “This was one of those songs where the more I heard it, the more I fell in love with it,” he explained. “I also realized how important it is for me and where I am in my life, and I think that’s why [writer] Shane [McAnally] was trying to get it to me.” Shelton added that it fit his story and that he needed Gwen Stefani on it because it’s “our song.”

The pair performed the song at the 2020 Grammys. Additionally, they took home the Collaborative Video of the Year win at the 2020 CMT Awards. The powerhouse couple has collaborated before, but this is their most awarded duet yet.

“The Good Ones” – Gabby Barrett

Going from her debut No. 1 “I Hope,” which is all about a cheating ex to finding the perfect man with “The Good Ones.” Gabby Barrett can do it all. She co-wrote her second single with Emily Landis, Jim McCormick, and Zachary Kale. The song was inspired by her relationship with husband and fellow American Idol alum, Cade Foehner.

The song is all about finding the right man who is an overall good person. “I had just been thinking of when we were dating,” Barrett recalled to The Boot. “Tt the time during American Idol, people in my family would ask me, like, “How’s your boyfriend doing?” And I’d be like, ‘Oh, he’s good. He’s a good one. He’s a keeper.'”

“10,000 Hours” – Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber

Perhaps one of the most awarded songs this year, Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber for “10,000 Hours.” The track won for Best Lyrics at the iHeartRadio Music Awards along with two American Music Awards for Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Country Song.

The song was written by Dan Smyers, Julian Perretta, and Bieber. This song marked the first top ten hit for the country duo. The song reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The music video features all three musicians and their wives. Much like the song’s sentiment, the trio sings about their love and loving one person for the rest of your life and it will never be enough.

“Write A Book” – Maddie & Tae

Maddie & Tae brought a new take to the classic love song. The duo wrote about a significant other being able to write a book about their love and make a fortune off just the words. Although the song did not achieve the notoriety it deserves, it’s still a fan favorite and a beautiful love song.

The duo revealed that they wrote the dune at the beginning of Tae Dye and now-husband Josh Kerr’s relationship. “Neither one of us said that we wanted to be more than friends,” Dye recalled. Maddie Marlow explained that their songwriting team was done for the day but she had the idea for the title of the song written on a piece of paper. “I thought it was a terrible title,” she admitted. She shared that every time she believes something is a terrible idea, it usually becomes a song.

“You Kissed Me First” – Carly Pearce

Carly Pearce tells the story of a man and woman at a bar with the guy making the first move and reminding him of that. Songwriter extraordinaire Hilary Lindsay sent Pearce the song after she wrote it with her in mind.

“It just had this fun, flirty, confidence to it and just a little bit of swagger that I could relate to,” Pearce said. “I’m all in but you did it,” Pearce described the song’s message. Although a good portion of her record was songs about heartbreak and other subject matter, this has been a standout song among fans who can easily relate to her storytelling.

“Down to One” – Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan brought the soul in “Down To One.” The song was written by Dallas Davidson, Justin Ebach, and Kyle Fishman for the Born Here, Live Here album. Any song that is an artist’s wife’s favorite, is an epic love song. Luke Bryan told Taste of Country that the song is his wife Caroline’s personal favorite.

“She always wants me to put out fun songs,” he told the outlet. “She’s like, ‘Nobody wants to hear a bunch of sad, depressing stuff. Put fun, fun, fun.’ She’s always the champion of fun and dancing.”

“The One You Need” – Brett Eldredge

After taking a hiatus from creating music, Brett Eldredge wowed fans with his latest record, Sunday Drive, and “The One You Need.” The song is what almost everyone wants their significant other to say, to let that person be the one you need in any situation.

The new song came about during his recording session for the record that was a stretch for Eldredge. For the first time, he recorded his album outside of Nashville.

“Well, you know, Nashville is Music City,” Eldredge explained to Think Country Music. “It’s the greatest place for music in the world, but I think, after a while, you gotta shake things up in your life if you wanna get out of the, if you wanna disrupt and change the way you do things and give another element to who you are and find change in your life.  So, I wanted to do something drastically different.  I wanted to do something to take myself out of my comfort zone. “
