By now, everyone has heard Billy Ray Cyrus’s song “Old Town Road” and have seen the Bernie Sanders inauguration memes. Yesterday, Cyrus combined the two, asking fans about a new mashup.

Since the inauguration on Wednesday, memes of New York Senator Bernie Sanders have been flooding the internet. A photo of 79-year-old Sanders sitting with his legs and arms crossed, rocking a basic blue face mask, brown and black mittens, and a large wind-breaking jacket. Bernie Sanders looks completely uninterested, as well as cold at the event for his former democratic competitor.

The trend on social media is to photoshop Bernie Sanders’s picture and paste it into just about any image. Here are some examples if you still aren’t picking up what I’m putting down.

In this photo, Senator Sanders is choking out UFC fighter Conor McGregor.

And another of Sanders in the Nighthawks painting from 1942.

Billy Ray Cyrus Joins

Well, artist Billy Ray Cyrus decided to join the trend. The hilarious photo shows Cyrus driving a car in a purple cowboy shirt with white tassels, along with a white cowboy hat. In the passenger seat, Lil Nas X holds a bag with a dollar sign on it. He rocks a black cowboy hat and black button-up with white tassels and rhinestones.

In the backseat of the car, a sneaky Bernie Sanders sits cross-legged and bundled up.

Cyrus captions the post, commenting on his hit song, “Old Town Road.”

“Leave a (cowboy emoji) in the comments if you want us to drop the @BernieSanders remix.”

Bernie Sanders Weighs In

Sanders has commented on the meme, saying he didn’t know he was being funny. He was just trying to enjoy the event.

“I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on,” Bernie Sanders said in an interview with Seth Meyers. “I’ve seen them.”

Bernie Sander says that his style has started to catch on. A meme, a Senator, and a fashion icon.

“What was really nice, Seth is the woman who made the mittens lives in Essex Junction, Vermont. She is a school teacher and is a very, very nice person. She has been somewhat overwhelmed by the kind of attention that is being shown to her mittens.”

‘Old Town Road’

The new mashup of “Old Town Road” would surely be another hit, however, just like before. The song also was the fastest hit to make it to diamond certification. It was up for 37 nominations since 2018 and won 14 of them, including the 2019 Song of the Year by the MTV Video Music Awards.

In less than a year, “Old Town Road” achieved 12 times platinum award in the US, which is the second most for a single, behind “Despacito.”
