Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus took to social media on Friday evening to send his well wishes to everyone affected by the recent winter storm.
In Texas especially, communities have been desperately seeking ways to stay warm. They are also in need of other necessities as many remain without electricity in freezing or near-freezing temperatures.
As a result, Billy Ray Cyrus joins other stars who have spoken out in the spirit of helping. The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer posted on Twitter on Friday morning asking his one-and-a-half million followers to support through their favorite charity.
“Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the recent major winter storm,” Billy Ray Cyrus wrote earlier this morning. “Our friends could use some help to recover. If you are able to help, please support thru your favorite charity #salvationarmy #RedCross”
There has been a lot of finger blaming as to why so many lost power this week in the Lone Star State. However, Gov. Greg Abbott was reassuring his fellow Texans that he will get to the bottom of what happened.
“Texans deserve answers about why the shortfalls occurred, and how they’re going to be corrected and Texans will get those answers,” Abbott said.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says that the storm system that materialized this week in the South will continue to impact the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast US. They say that “significant ice accumulations and heavy snowfall are expected.”
Because of that, 78 million Americans are currently under a winter weather alert. And what’s more, 27 million people will go to bed under a hard-freeze warning.
Billy Ray Cyrus Among Other Stars to Post Message In Light of Winter Storms
The popular country music singer wasn’t the only star to post a touching message to those affected by the winter storms. In fact, those in need were also on the mind of the young Yellowstone star Brecken Merrill.
Merill plays the curious Tate Dutton on Paramount Network’s hit series. Tate is not only a cowboy in training, he also spends his days observing the ranch hands go about their business. He also spends a lot of time with his grandfather, Kevin Costner’s John Dutton.
With so many people still without electricity in Texas, Merrill took it upon himself to post a survival tip on social media.
“Thought this worth sharing,” Merill wrote. “Please be safe! I’ve been hearing tragic stories of families getting hurt or even dying trying to keep warm.”
