This started as a good year for Blackberry Smoke. They dropped You Hear Georgia to celebrate their twentieth anniversary back in May. Then, they hit the road in late July. Now, the band has put the breaks on their ongoing Spirit of the South Tour. The band announced that they would be canceling or rescheduling some upcoming shows via Instagram yesterday.

The decision came after guitarist Pual Jackson tested positive for COVID-19. So, this is the second time that the virus has put the band’s tour on hold. Originally, Blackberry Smoke planned to kick off the tour in 2020. However, like countless other performers, they had to postpone until this year. Their current tour began on July 30. Since then, they have played a few shows. They were set to play Jacksonville, Florida on August 10th. The band posted the initial postponement announcement that morning on Instagram.

The announcement starts by saying, “Unfortunately, we are unable to continue with tonight’s Spirit of the South show in Jacksonville, FL. Paul Jackson reported feeling symptoms of COVID-19, was tested immediately, and found to be positive.” The statement continued, saying that Blackberry Smoke wanted to do all that they could to ensure the safety of the fans, band, and crew as well as venue staff. Blackberry Smoke promised to keep fans informed of refunds or new dates for the Jacksonville show and any other appearance that was impacted by Jackson’s positive test.

Blackberry Smoke Announce New Tour Dates

As promised, Blackberry Smoke took to Instagram last night to announce the updated Spirit of the South schedule.

Those rescheduled dates started with tonight’s show in Baltimore, Maryland. Unfortunately, the band had to cancel that show. However, their post stated that they would do their best to get back to Baltimore as soon as possible. Additionally, they announced that everyone who already bought tickets can get refunds from their point of purchase.

Luckily for some fans, Blackberry Smoke was able to reschedule some upcoming shows. They moved their August 15th show at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre to August 22nd. Also, they were able to secure a new date for the August 13th show at the Stone Pony Summer Stage. The new date is August 29th. Additionally, they moved their August 14th show in Portsmouth, Virginia to October 15.

Blackberry Smoke ended the announcement of new concert dates by saying that if there was any way they could keep the scheduled dates they would. However, they will do all that they can to play as many shows as possible in the coming weeks.
