On Tuesday, country star Blake Shelton announced his engagement to singer Gwen Stefani and it turns out he enlisted the help of three very special cohorts for the occasion – Stefani’s children.

Prior to asking his fellow The Voice judge for her hand in marriage, Shelton asked Stefani’s three kids for their help. Stefani has three children with ex-husband and rocker Gavin Rossdale. Supposedly, Kingston (14), Zuma (12), and Apollo (6) are very close with Shelton. And the country singer made sure to involve them “every step of the way” while making his engagement plans.

“Blake is very close to Gwen’s boys,” a close source told Entertainment Tonight. “They talked it through and Blake made sure they were part of the excitement! Blake had a custom-made engagement ring. He knows the designer and has used them in the past to make bracelets for Gwen.”

Shelton being a traditional guy even made sure to seek the approval of Stefani’s father before her asking the singer to marry him.

“Blake’s plan to propose to Gwen began by asking her father for her hand in marriage. Gwen is very traditional so he truly felt that asking her father for approval was the proper thing to do. And her father adores Blake,” the source explained. “Gwen has been ready to tie the knot for a long time and Blake knew this was the perfect time.”

Shelton and Stefani Announce Engagement

Shelton shared the big news of the couple’s engagement in a Twitter post where he joked that he “heard a yes!” ET reported further details on the engagement. The couple got engaged two weekends ago while in Oklahoma at Shelton’s home. Additionally, a source explained to ET why Shelton felt like this was the right time to propose after five years of dating.

“Blake has been the one who wanted to take it slow in the beginning but recently he decided it was time. During the pandemic, they’ve had lots of downtime together,” the source said. “And he truly saw the importance of spending life with the person you love. Gwen takes marriage very seriously and was disappointed that her first marriage didn’t work out. She wasn’t in a hurry because she wanted to ensure Blake was ready.”

“They both live incredibly busy lives,” the source continued. “They’ve managed to make sure they work together and spend as much time as they can together. The pandemic has given them both the time they needed to slow down and just appreciate and love each other.”
