With only a few weeks left on this season of The Voice, Blake Shelton is sitting pretty as the only artist with two singers left. There’s only one problem, and it comes in the form of a 15-year-old.

Blake Shelton joins Late Night with Seth Meyers to reveal the one thing that’s standing in his way of winning another season of The Voice.

This week, the top nine contestants were slimmed down to a competitive top five. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani each have one artist left, while Blake Shelton boasts two. One young man, however, posed a threat to all four members.

“You know, the problem for Team Blake this year–I have two members left, which is incredible in the finale. Everybody else just has one. But Gwen happens to have this very, very special young man named Carter Rubin that I feel like if there is a threat to all of our teams, it’s that kid. And if he wins, I don’t think any of us would be mad about it because he deserves it. He’s a special kid.”

Shelton, who has won seven of the show’s 19 seasons and is the only original coach left from the 2011 opening season, says that he is just as in the dark as fans.

“But my team has been strong, and they have been strong all season. And we never know how the voting is going. They never clue us in. You would think after almost 20 seasons of doing this show, I could pull some favors, but I still never know what’s going on behind the scenes.”

Threat to Blake Shelton on The Voice

Carter Rubin, the fifteen-year-old knockout singer, had coach Gwen Stefani in tears during last week’s performance of “Rainbow Connection,” who he dedicated to his older brother with autism.

“So, I would say Carter is going to be our toughest competition, all of us coaches because he’s a special– he’s got a pretty decent coach, too.”

Just listen, the young man has an amazing talent. Meanwhile, dogs howl while we sing.
