Blake Shelton shocked fans by releasing a new song on New Year’s Eve.
On Thursday, Dec. 31, Shelton was interviewed by The Voice host Carson Daly during NBC’s New Year’s Eve Special. Shelton joined the show virtually through video chat.
When Daly asked what his favorite part of this year was, the country singer was quick to answer. “I got engaged to Gwen Stefani,” he exclaimed. “I don’t care what else happened besides that. That made it a great year for me.”
Shelton then revealed that he will be premiering the music video for his new song, “Minimum Wage,” in seconds. The music video’s director was none other than his future brother-in-law Todd. Todd also directed the “Happy Anywhere” music video featuring his sister.
The new song features Shelton singing about his love and not needing anything else but her in his life. “Girl your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage,” he sings.

Blake Shelton and His 2020
Blake Shelton has had an extremely busy year. He released new music, including a duet with Stefani. The couple also coached on Season 19 of The Voice. In between his obligations, he spent quarantine and his downtime at his ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
He also proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Stefani. Prior to popping the question, he asked her children for their permission. He told the heartwarming story to Kelly Clarkson on an episode of her talk show.
“I didn’t want to take her away or do something private away from the kids,” he told his fellow coach. “I felt it was important for the kids to be a part of that moment, so that’s what I did. I had the ring for a couple weeks; maybe two and a half weeks.”
