Brooks & Dunn’s ‘Hard Workin’ Man’ Celebrates It’s 27th Anniversary
Twenty-seven years ago, Brooks & Dunn released, “Hard Workin’ Man,” and it spent 99 weeks on the Billboard charts. The song is about anyone who works hard but feels like they can’t catch a break. Lyrics include, “I can’t get ahead no matter how hard I try. I’m gettin’ really good at barely gettin’ by.” In fact, Dunn says that he was inspired to write the song after spending years trying to make it as a songwriter in Nashville.
“I realized early into the game that I [wasn’t going to be able] to call a publisher or whoever in Nashville and get a song, much less get a top drawer song,” said Dunn. “…One day, I committed to sitting down for 10 days straight and really took a stab at seriously writing songs. Just adding discipline to the concept,” he continued.
Undoubtedly, his discipline definitely paid off. Since releasing “Hard Workin’ Man,” Brooks & Dunn have released songs including “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone,” “Husbands and Wives,” and “Believe.” Each of those songs was nominated for Song of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Most recently, in keeping with the throwback theme, Brooks & Dunn released throwback merchandise. In celebration of “Hard Workin’ Man,” the t-shirts feature the same throwback photo as they have on their Christmas card. Additionally, they use vintage fonts and colors to really capture the 90s vibes.
