Carrie Underwood has another award in her trophy case!

The American Idol alum took home a 2021 Gospel Music Association Dove Award. She won for the Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year category for her collaboration with CeCe Winans on “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”

The track was featured on Underwood’s gospel album, My Savior. The record was also nominated for the Bluegress/Country/Roots Album of the Year. The big announcement came at this year’s awards show on October 22.

“Thank you, @GMADoveAwards,” Carrie Underwood tweeted. “Recording “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” with @cecewinans was a highlight of my career and she is truly one of my biggest inspirations. Congratulations on your huge night, CeCe! #DoveAwards #MySavior.”

Underwood is no stranger to the Dove Awards. She won her first Dove Award back in 2006 for the Country Recorded Song of the Year for her hit, “Jesus Take the Wheel.”

Next up for Carrie Underwood is the release of her Greatest Hits: Decade No. 1. It will be sold exclusively on vinyl records and available to purchase on November 12.

Carrie Underwood’s Faith

Although Carrie Underwood is a country artist, she has always been outspoken about her Christian faith. In an interview with AP, she spoke about transitioning into other sectors of music like Christian and Gospel.

“I’m lucky enough that I feel like I’ve been making spiritual music along the way in my career,” she said. “I love the sassy stuff and I love to get an attitude and get dressed up and do all that stuff. But it’s so nice to be able to sing songs like this.”

Additionally, Carrie Underwood grew up in Oklahoma singing in her church choir. She always knew that she wanted to release a gospel album and had to just find the perfect time to do so. So she began with My Gift, a record of Christmas hymns.

“It’s such a great time to just really slow down and be super intentional about what I’m doing,” she continued.

Furthermore, for Underwood, “it’s not about the bigger, better thing. It’s about the smaller thing, the thing that’s inside of me.”

While all songs had special meaning for her, one stood out the most. Fans will recall that she performed “Softly and Tenderly at the 2017 CMA Awards. The segment was to honor the victims of the tragic Route 91 massacre. Underwood was clearly emotional and the song was utterly breathtaking. So she recorded the song for her record.

“In that moment that I sang that song, I feel like it provided such a peace in the room and it allowed everybody to be emotional and to be stirred inside themselves,” she said of the performance.
