Carrie Underwood Under Fire for Liking Pundit’s Address to Nashville School Board

Country superstar Carrie Underwood recently clicked like on a social media post showing a speaker at a Nashville School Board meeting addressing the topic of masks in the classroom

The speaker was Matt Walsh, a conservative personality. He told the school board that he considers masks a “cruel and indefensible … mandate” for children going back to school.

Carrie Underwood, who has 8.2 million followers on Twitter, liked the video. You could see it if you pull up the likes on her profile.

In the video, Walsh also tells the school board that Covid-19 poses “almost no threat to our kids.” He also said that he considers forcing children to wear masks as “child abuse.”

Folks found out about the like because Walsh started tweeting about it.

The Carrie Underwood Like Got Mixed Reaction

As always with social media, a lot of folks reacted to the Carrie Underwood like.

Alex Clark, a host of a conservative show on pop culture, tweeted: “I’m going to say something that is going to be hard for some of you to hear. Yes Carrie Underwood is absolutely conservative. So are a lot of stars you love. Get over it.”

But another fan of country music wrote: “Seeing people react to Carrie Underwood being an anti-vaxxer makes me glad legend Dolly Parton helped bankroll one and two-time Rock And Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks has been pushing for masks, vaccines and social distancing all along.”

Parton donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center last year to help with its vaccination project with Moderna. When she got the vaccine earlier this year, she had it recorded so she could share it with her millions of social media followers.

Underwood chooses to stay politically neutral, opting to focus on her music. Earlier this month, she earned two Dove nominations for her gospel music and the album, My Savior. The Dove Awards are sponsored by the Gospel Music Association.

She’s up for the Bluegrass/Country/Roots album of the year. Plus, she and gospel superstar CeCe Winans are nominated for their collaboration on Great is Thy Faithfulness. That song is up for Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year.

And, Carrie Underwood collaborated with Jason Aldean on the song If I Didn’t Love You. It debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country chart.

Aldean recently talked about his summer duet with Carrie Underwood in an iHeart Country interview.

The “song (is) about getting over a relationship and sort of knowing what you need to do in your head, but it’s really kind of hard to do that in the heart,” Aldean said. “It’s one of those love song, breakup song kind of things.”

Carrie Underwood also performed with Dwight Yoakam at last month’s CMA Summer Jam series. The two closed out the first two nights.
