Chris Stapleton and his wife Morgane recently made a sizeable donation to a family who suffered a devastating loss during the floods that tore through Tennessee last week.
Governor Bill Lee declared a state of emergency on Wednesday (August 25th) after heavy rains ripped through Middle Tennessee and caused major flooding in rural towns. The floods destroyed more than 500 homes and left 20 people dead.
Waverly, TN was among the hardest-hit areas. And the community is grieving the loss of 7-month-old twins. Ryan and Riliegh Hall were swept from their father’s arms as he tried to save them when rapid water began rushing into their home. Their father was able to save their 5-year-old and 19-month-old siblings, but the twins did not survive.
A GoFundMe page was started to help the family, and Morgane Stapleton, who has five children of her own, made a $10,000 donation. The page has raised more than $100,000 dollars.
“The donations we have received just makes us cry with joy and it is very overwhelming how many people are willing to donate to help,” reads an update on the page. “We are so grateful for everyone, and everyone has been so supportive, and [the children’s mother] has called you all angels.”
The page is raising funds to cover Ryan and Riliegh’s funeral costs and repair the damage to the family’s home.
Meet Morgane Stapleton
Meet Morgane Stapleton. She is the beautiful and talented woman who is always by Chris Stapleton’s side. The couple has been inseparable throughout the years, and she’s a major force behind Chris’s incredibly successful career.
Chris isn’t the only musician in his family. Morgane is a singer and songwriter herself. In fact, that is how she met her Grammy award-winning husband. The couple met in 2003 at Sea Gayle Music, where Morgane was working at the time. She’d sit down and listen when Chris would play new music he’d written. And eventually, he asked her to write a song with him.
“That ended up being our first date. We didn’t get much writing done that night,” she recalled in an interview with the Washington Post.
Chris didn’t ask his now-wife to collaborate with him just because she’s gorgeous. He asked her because she’s incredibly talented and has a long list of jaw-dropping songwriting credits. Morgane Stapleton has written lyrics for artists such as Carrie Underwood, Trisha Yearwood, Allan Jackson, and Lee Ann Womack. She’s also a backup vocalist. She’s lent her voice to tracks by Dierks Bentley, and Kellie Pickler.
The couple married in 2007 and now have five children together. Morgan continues to be his number one collaborator and fan.
“My wife has great taste in everything but men,” Stapleton joked in a 2015 interview. “The vast majority of the songs on my debut album, ‘Traveller,’ came from lists she made.” And Morgan can also be heard singing back-up throughout the entire Grammy-winning album.
