With just hours before the 2020 edition of the Country Music Association Awards, the hype is real. The list of performing artists is gigantic, and there will no doubt be heavy competition for the best performance at this edition of the CMA Awards.
The show will feature huge names ranging from Jason Aldean to Miranda Lambert, as there is huge star power at play. However, there is also a neat variety of styles participating at the event. Not to mention that the co-hosts, Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker, will be performing.
With that said, let’s hop to it: here are the performances we cannot wait to see on Wednesday night!
Awards Opening: Jason Aldean, Brothers Osborne, Dierks Bentley, Jenee Fleenor, Ashley McBryde
Speaking of Aldean, how about this opening lineup for the CMA Awards? Not only is the country legend performing, but he is being joined by a plethora of talent in the Brothers Osborne, Dierks Bentley, Jenee Fleenor, and Ashley McBryde.
While there aren’t an immense amount of details about the opener, one thing is for sure: it’s a mega-tribute to Charlie Daniels. The legendary country artist passed away in 2020 due to a stroke, and the group is going to honor his legacy at the top of the ceremony.
Whether they cover ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia” remains to be seen, but no matter what, it will be an opener not to miss.
Jon Pardi Paying Homage to Joe Diffie
Pardi recently talked about what the tribute means to him, per Taste of Country.
“Gonna sing a bad— song from an awesome artist that I grew up listening to. Dang! That’s easy,” Pardi said. “That’s like honky-tonkin’ we talking about, that’s an exciting performance.”
It sure is.
Keith Urban Performing from Australia
Per Hello!, the Australian is going to be performing from his homeland, and will be belting out ‘God Whispered Your Name.’ A perfect song for the ever-changing and concerning times of a pandemic.
It will be very interesting to see how Urban approaches his performance, and exactly what it will look like. Either way, we’ll be tuned in.
Dan + Shay with Justin Bieber
But the fact of the matter is that Bieber’s appearance with Dan + Shay will be huge. “10,000 Hours” is a landmark collab between two modern country artists and one of pop’s biggest names, and the performance ought to be equally impressive.
It may not be your cup of tea, but in 2020, Bieber is a far cry from his teen days. This ought to be professional, impressive and something we can’t wait to see.
