CMA Country Christmas: Little Big Town Explain Why Special Means So Much to Them

Members of Little Big Town were definitely looking forward to being a part of Monday night’s CMA Country Christmas special on ABC.

Their performance will be just one of many acts delivering holiday cheer for country music fans watching at home.

“Tonight we’re going to perform ‘Christmastime Is Here,’ which I love that song and we’ve never performed it before so I’m really excited about it,” Jimi Westbrook says.

“Yeah, we’re so happy to be on the show this year,” Kimberly Schlapman says. “It always ushers in the beginning of the Christmas season and it gets you in the spirit like crazy and, um, we’re ready for Christmas, right?”

CMA Country Christmas Stirs Up Memories For Singer

“The thing I look forward to the most is this CMA Country Christmas music show. It always reminds me of shows that I grew up watching,” Karen Fairchild says.

“You know, the shows that we could always gather together as a family and watch and there’s not much of that anymore and so I love that this show does that.

“It brings families together and there’s incredible performances,” Fairchild says. “This year we have Lauren and Thomas Rhett doing it and hosting so I know that will be super special and hopefully their girls will make an appearance. I’m sure they will.”

“Me personally and my household start listening to Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving,” Phillip Sweet says. “It’s like…and all the decorations come out and it gets rolling. That’s my favorite thing.”

“I’ve gotten in the spirit earlier and earlier for the last couple of years,” Schlapman says

“Like Halloween?” Fairchild asks kiddingly.

“After Halloween, like the second week of November I get in the itch to put up a wreath and then a tree and fake snow and, um, yeah I think we’re all ready for some happy Christmas cheer,” Schlapman says.

Here are the band’s members sharing their thoughts before the special itself.

Group Has Multiple Awards To Its Name

The group is among those listed as Grammy, Academy of Country Music, Country Music Association, and American Music Award winners.

Little Big Town, according to its website, entered the music scene over 20 years ago with hits like “Boondocks” and GRAMMY-nominated “Little White Church.”

Their breakthrough albums Tornado and Pain Killer produced multiple No. 1 singles, including “Pontoon,” “Tornado,” and “Day Drinking,” and “Girl Crush.”

2017’s The Breaker debuted No. 1 on the Billboard Country Charts and Top 10 (No. 4) on the Billboard 200 to critical acclaim. The album features their Grammy-winning No 1 single “Better Man,” as well as the 2019 Grammy-nominated “When Someone Stops Loving You.”

The band released new music from their ninth studio album, Nightfall, in January. It included the critically-praised song “The Daughters” and country single “Over Drinking.”

Coincidentally, Little Big Town received two Grammy Nominations for Best Country Album and Best Country Group Performance.

The band expressed its gratitude to the Recording Academy and their fans on Twitter.
