Little more than a month after dropping his 18-track record “Human the Double Album,” Cody Johnson is set to release his first-ever holiday album. It’s not quite the 18 songs he gave us on “Human,” but on November 19, Johnson will once again gift his fans with a mix of classic covers and new original music.
This time, the classics will be seasonally appropriate. Between new renditions of Willie Nelson’s “Pretty Paper” and Merle Haggard’s “If We Make it Through December,” “A Cody Johnson Christmas” promises to be the perfect accompaniment to a crackling fire and a mug of hot chocolate.
The 10-track record will feature eight of Johnson’s favorite Christmas classics from over the years and two originals. The new cuts come from the pen of Johnson’s mentor and colleague Trent Willmon. And guess what, CoJo fans? To ring in the start of the holiday season, Johnson has already made one of those tracks available across digital music platforms.
Oh yeah, you read that right. “Hat Made of Mistletoe” is streaming at this very moment. If that doesn’t get you excited, then surely the timeless Christmas classic “Away in A Manger” will have you jamming out while you pop a sheet of cookies into the oven come November 19. How about “Silent Night”? Okay, they’re a bit tired as Christmas classics, granted. That’s why Johnson and Willmon set to work reimagining the arrangements for the iconic carols.
“It feels great to finally share all the details about my first Christmas album. Every song on this record holds a special memory for my family. I hope my fans can make their own memories listening this holiday season,” said Johnson.
‘A Cody Johnson Christmas’ Tracklist
The album starts with the other Trent Willmon/Cody Johnson original, “Christmas All Year Long.” From there, it’s Nelson’s “Pretty Paper,” an undeniable classic in “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and Merle Haggard’s “If We Make It Through December.”
Tracks 5-10 are as follows: “Away In A Manger,” “Hat Made of Mistletoe,” “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Feliz Navidad,” and “Santa Claus Is Back In Town.”
Cody Johnson’s October Record Debuted as Top New Country Album
Cody Johnson fans need no reminder of the artist’s October “Human the Double Album” release. His lead single, “Til You Can’t,” has been steadily climbing up the country charts. Even though the single was released back in June, Johnson recently dropped the music video for the track, and it has given the tear-jerker new life.
“It’s been a long time coming, and I’m proud to finally give y’all my newest record, Human The Double Album. I’m thankful for God giving me the talent and ability to make music. Also, thank you to my team, my family, and my fans for making this project possible. I couldn’t have done it without y’all!” Johnson wrote on Instagram when he released the album a few weeks ago.
