Country music singer-songwriter Jimmie Allen’s music reaches many people. Now he’s putting down one instrument to pick up another. This time country music star Jimmie Allen is picking up a writing instrument. He’s releasing a children’s book with the title My Voice Is a Trumpet. The book is about teaching kids the power of using their voices.
With two back-to-back No. 1 hits, Allen’s wanting the message of his book to connect with a younger audience, just like his music has. “I’ve learned that writing a book and songwriting have a lot in common — it’s all about the honesty and connection with the audience,” Jimmie Allen says in a People interview. “I wrote about what I would want to read as a kid, and things I learned that helped me.”
An excerpt from the book reads, “From voices that roar like a lion, to voices small as a bee, all it takes is confidence and a belief in the goodness of others to change the world.” He’s hoping to teach kids that you always have the power to speak up. It’s a message that he’s sharing at an early age with his own two children. He has a son Aadyn, 6-years-old, and daughter Naomi Bettie, 6-month-old.
Allen’s making this a teachable moment. He’s sharing in the children’s book that no matter what shape or size you are, your voice matters. He aims to emphasize to all readers that one’s voice has power.
Using his voice to speak up isn’t something new to Allen. He’s been vocal about racial justice, not only in the industry but beyond. Also, Allen frequently talks about racial justice. Allen especially touches on what it’s like to be one of the few, well-known black country music artists.
Illustrations in the upcoming book are done by award-winning children’s book illustrator Cathy Ann Johnson.
