Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings are two of the biggest country music stars the world has ever seen. When the two music stars struck up a friendship, the world benefitted immensely. Labeled as “outlaws,” they began creating a different brand of country.

Their friendship culminated in a truly epic manner. The two singers collaborated on a track called “The Conversation.” Originally, the track was released by Hank Williams Jr. in 1979. But in 1983, Waylon Jennings included the song in his album, Waylon and Company.

For those who have not heard the song, or haven’t heard it in a long time, it is exactly what the title says it is. “The Conversation” is essentially the two musicians talking about country music. Of course, the track is more of a song than two singers having a regular conversation.

The song is set up such that Waylon Jennings asks Hank Williams Jr. about his iconic father. When “The Conversation” came out, it did well on the charts. In the U.S., the song climbed the country music charts to No. 15. In Canada, the song reached the No. 12 spot.

Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings Performed “The Conversation” Together, Live

The two musicians liked the song so much that they decided to make a music video. This was an exceedingly rare thing for both of them to do. It was the first such video that Waylon Jennings had ever made. For Hank Williams Jr., it was only the second music video he had ever done.

When the video was released to the public, there was immediate hope that they would perform live. If you ever were lucky enough to see the two perform together live, count yourself lucky.

The two had undeniable chemistry when they sang together. They fed off of each other’s energy in whatever song they were performing. It was a truly magical sight.

During Hank Williams Jr.’s A Star Spangled Country Concert, the two performed “The Conversation.” As soon as they started playing the song, the crowd went wild.

Because the two musicians were so popular on their own, it was not often that they performed together. Nonetheless, during that concert, “The Conversation” was certainly a highlight. Thankfully, the entire song was captured on video.

As a result, it makes for an incredible experience to look back on. Watching Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings perform together again is bound to bring you back to their heyday.
