While many Miranda Lambert fans are familiar with her debut album, Kerosene, the country superstar’s first album was released back in 2001.

That year, teenage Miranda Lambert unleashed her country girl charm when she delivered an homage to her home state with the song, “Texas as Hell.”

Lambert’s independent album is a rare gem that pays tribute to her small Texas hometown of Lindale.

At the young age of 16, she had multiple recording sessions in Nashville. But the Texan girl found herself back in the lone star state after the label wanted her to go with a pop-country sound. Back home, Lambert learned to play guitar and began writing songs.

When she was 18 years old, Lambert independently released her self-titled debut album, which she paid for herself. Soon after, Nashville music executives would take note of Lambert after taking third place on Nashville Star.

Three years later, the future country megastar landed a record deal with Epic Nashville in 2004.

Miranda Lambert’s Texas Pride Evident in Early Music

There’s no doubt that Miranda Lambert has grown up a lot in the past twenty years. However, one thing that’s remained is her love for her home state.

I’m Texas as hell, mean and ornery, I don’t need no loud mouth comin’ on to me, sings Lambert. My temper gets hotter in red white and blue blazes. You know dog-gone well everybody can tell I’m Texas as hell.

The song is the ultimate anthem for any Texan and proof that the fiery singer has always been country to her core. Young Lambert’s twang is reminiscent of early Tanya Tucker. Lambert packed a punch in the song when she gave us her iconic don’t- mess-with-Texas attitude.

Since then, things have only gotten better for the well-known star. Miranda Lambert has won two Grammy Awards and nine ACM Awards, making it clear she intends to leave a mark on country music. She’s also released six studio albums alongside successful, chart-topping singles.
