Carrie Underwood proved she is one woman you don’t want to mess with afer she gave a stunning performance at the 2006 CMT Awards.
That night, Underwood gave an incredible, sultry performance of her hit, “Before He Cheats.” In 2005, the song quickly became the all-empowering anthem for women who’ve caught their man cheating.
Nothing could’ve prepared viewers for what they were about to experience as she made her way to the stage in silver shorts and a classy up-do. During her performance, she approached a chair placed on a platform in the middle of the audience. Straddling the chair, the singer captured the crowd while singing some powerful lyrics.
“I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights
I slashed a hole in all four tires
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats”
Kicking the chair back, Underwood finished one of the sexiest performances ever. She released the sassy anthem the year before on her album Some Hearts. The tune quickly became the perfect statement for women who have ever experienced cheating and promptly became one of her most iconic songs.
Carrie Underwood Delivers First Awards Show Acceptance Speech
This wasn’t the only iconic moment for Underwood during the evening: that night, she graced the stage to accept her two CMT Awards.
Underwood had never delivered an acceptance speech for an award, making this a moment she would always remember.
“This is my very first acceptance speech, so I made a list,” Underwood said in accepting the breakthrough video of the year.
“First of all, thank you fans so much for voting for me again. You have no idea what it means to me.”
Later, Underwood returned to accept the award for female video for “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” During her speech, Underwood made it clear she wasn’t planning on taking her success for granted.
“I have the best fans in the universe,” she said. “Thank you so much, everybody who voted for me. You don’t know what it means to me to know I have that kind of support. All the other ladies in the category, I idolize you guys, so this is just amazing. Everybody in the country music industry has been so awesome to me. My mind is just blown by how nice everyone has been and how everyone’s opened their arms to me and just been so great.”
