A seemingly unlikely pair, deep-voiced country artist Darius Rucker and powerhouse pop singer, Adele, teamed up for a cover of Lady A’s “Need You Now.”
The two combined the sultry southern and powerhouse pop voices. It created a number that left Lady A in a state of absolute joy. It also marked a powerful union of country and pop music.
Rucker and Adele performed together at the 2010 CMT Artists of the Year Ceremony. This event is meant to celebrate each artists’ overall annual accomplishments.
Massive Success of Lady A ‘Need You Now’
When it comes to achievements, Lady A, as well as other country artists, will likely never get to the level of success that “Need You Now” demonstrated.
“Need You Now” dominated the radio in 2010. It was one of Lady A’s first songs of their career.
The song won four Grammy Awards in 2011. It won Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, and Best Country Song.
The song spent a whopping five weeks sitting at No.1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs. At the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2010, the song won Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
Besides being the ultimate 2009-2010 country hit, the song also soared on the pop charts. The song reached No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is the ninth most downloaded in history and is the top downloaded country song ever.
It is abundantly clear the extent to which the song allowed Lady A to trailblaze their way through the music industry. It’s no surprise the Lady A hit it even got Adele’s attention.
The pop singer has said in the past, according to Country Thang Daily, that the song “Need You Now” helped give her the courage to create her song “Don’t You Remember.”
Her album, “21,” has an interesting approach to storytelling. Similar to most of Adele’s music it is an emotionally riveting experience. This album explored exes and reconciliation.
Whatever her reasoning for hopping into a country music performance, it appears to leave the three members of Lady A absolutely starstruck.
