Loretta Lynn is known for many things.

There’s her legendary country music career, her memorable songs, and her interesting life story. She is also a pretty good cook. So good, in fact, that she was a spokeswoman for Crisco several decades.

According to an article from ClassicCountryMusic.com, Lynn officially joined forces with the company in 1979. Over the next decade, she appeared in both print and television advertisements promoting Crisco shortening.

One ad reveals that Lynn had earned 17 blue ribbons for her skills in the kitchen. Her husband, Doolittle, proudly displays the ribbons alongside his famous wife in this ad. You can watch that commercial below.

Loretta Lynn was a successful spokeswoman in that she truly believes in the product. She says in the above commercial that she won Crisco along with those blue ribbons.

“And, today, I’m still using Crisco,” she says with conviction. “… My Doo will tell you, Crisco makes the pie crust real flaky. … Crisco will do you proud every time.”

Family Appears with Lynn in Commercials

Husband Doo wasn’t the only family member to appear with Loretta Lynn in the commercials for Crisco. Her twin daughters, Patsy and Peggy, also make an appearance, according to the article.

The girls appear in the commercial shown below. It centers around the family sharing a meal around the dinner table together. As in other commercials, Lynn drives home the point that Crisco shortening is key to a flaky pie crust.

In addition to using Crisco for baking, Lynn appeared in commercials promoting the product’s other uses. Here, she says it’s Crisco that makes her fried chicken so crispy. “You can’t beat that Crisco crunch,” she says. She also promotes the Crisco cookbook.

The article also shares Loretta Lynn’s recipe for her famous pie crust. You only need four ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour; 3/4 teaspoon of salt; 1 cup of Crisco; and 4 Tablespoons of cold water.

To make the crust, combine the flour and salt. Next, cut in Crisco. Add the water, mixing as little as possible. You should bake the pie crust according to the recipe of the filling you are using.

Loretta Lynn Plans to Release New Album

She may not be appearing in Crisco commercials any longer, but Loretta Lynn is keeping busy. The 88-year-old legend’s latest project is a brand new album.

Titled, “Still Woman Enough,” the album is being produced by John Carter Cash – the son of country music royalty Johnny Cash and June Carter Casher. Lynn’s daughter, Patsy Lynn Russell, is also producing the album. The majority of “Still Woman Enough” was recorded in the Cash Cabin Studio located in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

One song that will appear on the upcoming album is Loretta Lynn’s cover of “I Saw the Light” by Hank Williams. Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntire, Margo Price, and Tanya Tucker will all appear on “Still Woman Enough.” The album is set to be released on March 19.
